One of Divided by 13s most versatile amplifiers, the EDT 13/29 was conceived after Evan Taubenfeld (Avril Lavigne, Stereopony, The Used and Spinfire) wanted an amp to give to his brother to commemorate his graduation from Berklee College of Music. The brief was to create an amplifier that would satisfy the most connoisseurial jazz and blues players, with a touch more headroom than your average combo, the potential to get a more aggressive tone at low volumes and the ability to attenuate the power from 30 to 15 watts. The heritage of the EDT 13/29 is an SJT10/20 with an entirely reworked back end, built to accommodate a pair of KT 66 tubes, selected for their shimmering glassy cleans and their creamy rich overdrive unobtainable using a standard 6L6GC tube type. Next, a power transformer was designed, that when rectified, produces the precise voltage necessary to achieve 30 watts using the selected KT tubes in a Class AB1 mode and provides the required current draw to support a Class A mode. The reverb and damping switches were kept, as well as Fred Taccones speaker of choice, a Celestion Vintage 30, chosen for the sound it produces and its power handling capabilities. What you get at the end of all that is an amp that perfectly captures a blend of American sparkle and British cleans to overdriven tones, all sophisticatedly voiced and wrapped up in a relatively small and portable package.
